The Medieval Troops of Briançon

A troupe performing at the entrance to the Porte de Pignerol (8) presents "The Little People." Magic, ventriloquism, dance, music, and comedy. Long ago, people believed in goblins, fairies, elves, and mermaids. They were part of everyday life, with no boundary between "real" and "fantasy." With time and the rise of scientific reason, the little people became an echo of old tales. But reason and science don't have all the answers. Goblins, Djinns, Farfadets, Cluricaunes, Brownies... They all have a story, a land of origin, and their own unique little habits... A fun, educational, and interactive show for children of all ages.

Located at Place Blanchard (1), Arthus offers a camp entirely focused on games from antiquity to the 18th century. Arthus's games feature experienced actors who break the ice, referee, interact with the audience, issue challenges, and take bets...

Stand set up in Place Blanchard (1), The silver mine was a flourishing and highly organized operation from the Middle Ages (10th-13th centuries). The mine is mentioned as early as 1155 in a charter granting the right to mint coins on behalf of the powerful figures of the time: the Church of Embrun and the lords of the Dauphiné. The Argentière- la-Bessée Silver Mine has created a historical and experimental archaeology workshop: the making of deniers. Demonstrations of the coin minting technique, including the use of a hammer and dies to strike coins. Each visitor can leave with the result of their experiment: their own medieval denier (€3)... but perhaps not made of silver!

At the Chanoine Motte Park Stage (7), you'll be swept away by its medieval folk-rock music, carried by the turbulent winds of the hurdy-gurdy, nyckelharpa, bagpipes, and other instruments from a bygone era... It's a "Wild Escape" at the crossroads of Occitan, Celtic, and festive traditions, concocted by Brick A Drac in a musical cauldron filled with strange creatures and a taste of Medieval Fantasy!

In the shadow of the moon appear the dancers of the Silk Road! Ancient and bohemian presences, they open the doors to an incandescent 

world. From their fingers are born astonishing will-o’-the-wisps, fireflies in flight that awaken the dance. During the journey they plucked a thousand stars and wove robes of embers. 

A little family break at Place d'Armes (4)! A creative space for children, adults, parents, and grandparents!

Decorate and build a cardboard castle to take home as a souvenir of the festivities! The activity lasts 45 minutes or more… Information and registration on site with Dame FLoW.

In the distance, a few musical notes can be heard, then little by little colorful dances begin and songs rise. It is time to celebrate Nature on this Beltane day, the festival of the changing rhythm of life.

Stage at Chanoine Motte Park (7), As night falls, when Nemain the Moon prepares to watch over the sleep of humankind, the ancient forest seems to awaken… Could it be laughter and whispers, or the sound of the wind? Music? Simple plays of light, or perhaps the shadow of a creature of the Forest? Let yourself be carried away towards these Ephemeral Flames where ancient rites of the Little People are enacted, let their magic dazzle you, and keep in mind that you will surely see no other.

Medieval chariot race, Place Blanchard (1). In a setting worthy of a royal tournament, your children will mount valiant wooden steeds harnessed to sulkies and launch into a thrilling race on a marked course shaped like a lists. A fun, festive, and chivalrous event that will delight young and old alike!

Educational farm & Alpine traditions, located below the Embrun Gate (5). Julie, the farmer from the past, will show you everything there is to know about her heritage breed animals.

After the "From Sheep to Yarn Ball" workshop on Friday afternoon, you can meet her horned and feathered animals on Saturday and Sunday, learn more, and enjoy games and displays about Alpine traditions and farm animals!

This medieval camp, located in the moat of the Porte de Pignerol (8), is run by a troupe from Italy. The troupe offers various activities and entertainment: archery, combat demonstrations, cooking, first aid, mock battles near the portcullis as it is lowered, with another troupe, music, etc. Visitors must go down into the moat to discover and participate in these activities.

Camp set up in the moat of the Porte de Pignerol (11), and run by an association of enthusiasts created in 2008 specializing in the medieval reenactment of the 13th century with sword, spear and staff combat,

sketches, explanations of the use of each weapon and armor of that period, combat initiation for adults and children...

Arriving from the depths of time, dragging their rags, teeth and smiles ahead, they will be very close to you, sometimes a little too close, but always laughing and singing. Don't be afraid of them when you meet them; they will simply try to make you forget about time!

Lancelot du Seau, Valiant Knight of the Square Table, travels the world in search of the Holy Grail, riding his faithful steed Rocinante. He is accompanied by his devoted squire, Paul Employ, a former beggar turned reformed and half-brother of France Travaille. These mercenaries accost unsuspecting folk here and there, hoping they will help them find the sacred vessel, the Grail, which is said to be hidden in the guise of a most pure Damsel... This Valiant Knight, guided only by his courage, will challenge anyone who dares to face him in a joust.

Specialists in medieval games, they invite young and old to Place Blanchard (1) to discover the games played in villages during the time of fortresses in the Middle Ages.

“HENNIN & CIE” & “TROBADOR'S CHAPEL”

Located in Place du Temple (9), the creation of personalized medieval hats in about ten minutes, live and in complete improvisation, will take place on the heads of gentle ladies and gentle squires... (adults and children).

From stiff paper hennins to tourets, crowns, and other headdresses, hats and hatters were inseparable elements of fashion in the Middle Ages.

Hunting Camp (1370-1400) Located in the moat of the Embrun Gate (5), based on Gaston Phébus's hunting book, come and discover hunting practices at the end of the 14th century (weaponry, animals hunted, dogs used, etc.).

Now, listen closely, good people and gentle ladies, for here comes a brotherhood of five singular souls, companions of strange destiny, wandering over hill and dale in search of forgotten adventures and wonders. Through the heavens and sounds, on stilts as tall as the pines of the Eastern forests, they will parade in a moving spectacle, their rhythm set by music and echoes of the fantastic.

Located in Place Éberlé (10). Master Chicotin's shop, a tooth-puller and a boring barber. "Dental and barber care advice." The tooth-puller, without faith or law, with radical methods… in medieval times. Unique in its kind, for its humor and historical references.

The pedal-powered musical carousel, Le Minimusicarrousel, has been installed in Place d'Armes (4) and will see our court jesters gather around their new invention.
